Employment in Europe 2000

The employment performance of the EU improved significantly in 1999. Some 2.1 million more jobs were created and the employment rate rose to 62.1%. Over the past three years, more than 4 million new jobs have been created in Europe. The strong performance of the economy and the progressive implementation of the Employment Strategy have played their part in this improvement
