European Vacancy Monitor

Issue n. 4/October 2011

According to the October edition of the European Vacancy Monitor, job offers and hiring have shown an increase (19 % for vacancies, 24 % for job finders and 12 % for public employment services vacancies) in the first quarter of 2011 compared to the same quarter in 2010. The increase was more significant in Northern and Western European countries and in the private sector. The public sector continued to offer less jobs, mainly in the field of education. While lower skilled occupations like service and sales workers took the largest share of jobs, the demand for higher skilled occupations soared. The highest growth was observed in positions for legislators, senior officials and managers, professionals and clerks.
