The aim of this article is to identify suitable benchmarks and indicators to measure the quality of work by disaggregating the multiple variables - e.g. well-being, productivity, performance assessment - that define its complex puzzle.
The article will examine the main actions aiming at better identifying the relevant components of the notion of quality of work adopted at the national and supranational level in order to assess how some of such components are regulated by the law and through collective bargaining.
Taking the issue of the quality of work seriously, by developing a theoretical model and elaborated systems to pursue its implementation, can offer an effective strategy of economic revitalisation and requires to abandon the blind and contingent approach which has characterized many of the proposals discussed to overcome the economic crisis.
